IPCI ACITIVITIES FOR FEBRUARY 2005

IPCI ON THE LOCAL & INTERNATIONAL SCENE

Alhamdulillah the year 2004 has been a very successful and eventful year for the IPCI, with limited resources, the IPCI has made a deep impact on spreading the Message of Islam locally and internationally.

ZIMBABWE ISLAMIC MISSIONARY STALWART VISITS IPCI

On the 7th of January 2005, the IPCI had the pleasure of hosting world renowned, speaker, author and stalwart in Dawah, Moulana Adam Makda. After addressing the Jummah congregation at the Mohammedeya Mosque, Moulana Adam addressed key organizational representatives at a luncheon at the IPCI . He discussed the “Role of Muslim organizations in meeting with the challenges of Dawah in South Africa” Important questions were raised after the discussion including the current situation in Zimbabwe. Alhamdulillah Moulana Makda advised that Islamic missionary work was well received by all political parties, government and the masses of people in Zimbabwe and its population. He stated that there exist religious freedom in Zimbabwe and his organization and others had no problem with the present regime.

IPCI LENDS A HELPING HAND TO THE DESTITUTE PEOPLE OF MALAWI

The Director of IPCI, Rafeek Hassen, wishes to thank the Muslim Community of South Africa who opened their hearts to the People of Malawi with their generous contributions in cash and kind. Shukran! May Allah (SWT) reward you for your contribution.

JUMMAH TALKS

There is a great need for the various Jummah Masaajids to speak with a united voice on the many issues affecting the Muslim Ummah at large. Our request for 2005 would be to ask Speakers to address the Jummah congregations on standardized topics. Insha Allah!

The IPCI currently sends 12 speakers to deliver Jummah Khutbahs at different Masaajids / Jamaat Khana in and around the greater Durban area. Contact the IPCI should you be requiring speakers.

REVERT CLASSES

Alhamdulillah 26 reverts have registered for the 1st Module of the full time classes. 19 have registered for the Saturday classes. The IPCI has contacted past learners with regard to embarking on introducing an advanced module to be conducted on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

NEXT REVERT CLASSES COURSE COMMENCES: 11 APRIL 2005 – 9 JUNE

COMPARATIVE RELIGION CLASSES – FULL TIME & Part time

Alhamdulillah a record number of 45 learners completed the full time course for 2004. An overwhelming response from the public has lead various institutes, madrassahs and ulloms requesting IPCI to run this Comparative Religion Course at their institute. The course has been upgraded into modules to make learning easier. IPCI has limited boarding facilities for males doing the full-time comparative course at a subsidized rate.

Full time courses are held Mon – Friday 9-30 am to 3-00 pm . For the first time Saturday morning classes have been introduced , time 9-30 am to 12-30.

MUSJID TOURS

A total of 960 visitors were taken on a guided tour to the Jummah Mosque (Grey Street) last year comprising visitors from various segments of society. A tour group comprising of 50 students from the USA , 22 Bible exchange students from Germany were addressed by the Director and tutors of the learning academy. The IPCI received tourist from Denmark, Japan, Italy, USA, Checkoslovakia, Argentina, Germany, Holland, Chile,

Musjid tours are conducted free of charge. If you want to arrange a group to visit the Musjid, phone IPCI.

ONE WEEK ‘VACATION’ COURSE IN COMPARATIVE RELIGION

A GREAT SUCCESS WITH UNIVERSITY and HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
A specially designed one week course during vacation, Introduction to Comparative Religion was conducted in December 2004. The target audience for this course were University and high school students. Alhamdulillah a total of 20 learners successfully completed the course. The popularity of the one week course has forced the IPCI to introduce the course on Saturdays from 9-30 am to 12-00 noon in order to accommodate students as well as the working class.

INTRODUCTION TO JOURNALISM

33 people have registered for the first term for 2005 which commenced on the 19th of February 2005. Classes are held on Saturdays from 9-30 am to 12-30 pm. Mr. I. Suder, former deputy Editor of the Daily News conducts these classes. Guest lecturers are also invited to address learners on different topics.

NEXT COURSE COMMENCES: 16 APRIL 2005 – 11 June 2005

ADULT LITERACY CLASSES

9 Learners successfully graduated in year 2004 having written external IEB exams. A greater need is required by ourselves to enroll staff members and domestic workers to these classes. Classes are held once a week on Thursday 1-30 pm to 3-00 pm. Kindly contact the IPCI offices for details.

REVERSIONS

Alhamdulillah, from October 2004 to February 2005, 72 persons accepted Islam, of these 6 were coloureds, 6 of European descent, 16 of Asian descent, 42 of African descent, 1 American, 1 Chinese. IPCI has also established a Revert Muslim Forum where revert Muslims meet as a support group.The next Revert Muslim Forum ‘get together’ will be on Saturday 9 April 2005 beginning with after Zohr with lunch at IPCI 124 Queen St.

SPECIAL EVENTS

  • 3rd December 2004 - IPCI together with the Palestine Support Committee hosted a delegation from Palestine. Ms. Dianna Butto spokersperson (PNA) Dr.Naeem Ateek(Head of Sabeel, West Bank) Mr. Mahmoud Ajrami (DG for Africa/Asia Ministry of foreign affairs in the PNA addressed representatives from different organizations.
  • January 5th 2005 - Christian Missionaries addressed by Director of IPCI
  • 27-31 December 2004 - IPCI store at Al-Al-Ansaar Fair.
  • 2005- January & February feeding scheme at Addington Beachfront
  • 17 February 2005-Comparative Students conduct one on one Dawah at Feeding scheme programme held by Orient Islamic School.
  • IPCI Ameer, Brother Dawood Ngwane & Sister Tahira Richmond former student of the IPCI Revert & Journalism classes completed their spiritual Journey (Hajj)
  • 21 February 2005 - received 1500 copies s of “O YE WHO BELIEVE” authored by Muhammed Motaher Hossain of Bangladesh for distribution by the IPCI. Available at IPCI for a donation of R5-00.

  • Dr. Dietrich Reetz – Researcher, Politics & History of South Asia, Centre for Modern Oriental Studies – Berlin
  • Dr. Abdullah Hakim Quick visited the Centre on the 18 Ferbuary 2005, conducted a Jummah programme at the North Beach Jamaat Khana.
  • Brothers Syed Zakir Ahmed, Mahomed Nayyar and H Farook who arranged the Peace Vision Exibition in Chennai South India, were the guests at IPCI.
